Crest Nicholson Regeneration has chosen to sponsor the Training & Development Award at this year’s Bath Business Awards. The developer behind the iconic regeneration scheme at Bath Riverside has been speaking to the Bath Chronicle about why it chose to sponsor this particular category.
Managing Director, Debbie Aplin, explained: “We have been involved in Bath for many years now and have come a very long way in bringing forward this vital regeneration of the city’s riverside corridor to create a vibrant new community. The first phase of the development is now on the market and homes have been selling very quickly. It is only natural that we would want to be involved in one of the highlights of Bath’s business calendar.”
The theme of Training and Development seemed the obvious award for Crest Nicholson Regeneration to sponsor. More than 200 jobs have been created on the site since work began in April last year, and amongst those working on site are some very special apprentices.
“We are working in partnership with Bath and North East Somerset Learning and Skills Partnership and City of Bath College to appoint a minimum of 10 apprentices over our construction programme” said Debbie Aplin. “Last year we selected and trained up 4 apprentices and this autumn we intend to take on another 2 carpentry apprentices.”
The apprentices have been learning various skills working onsite and after the completion of their first year, they have the option of having their contracts extended to allow them to achieve their NVQ2 certificate.
“Apprenticeships play an extremely important role in the construction industry, ensuring that we have a well skilled work force for the future” said Debbie Aplin. “Working with leading local colleges enables the education system to bring forward people to develop a range of useful skills, so we’re pleased to be able to provide such opportunities for young people in Bath.”
